—————————————————————————
The AOTS has released a video that features a METI-AOTS TICAD8 Official Side Event titled “How Japan can contribute to Industrial Human Resources Development in Africa,” held online last August.
The perspective of “industrial human resource development” is necessary for companies having connections with Japan and Africa to launch and expand their business. This event provided success in deepening discussion on the methods for business exapansion in Africa and Japan’s possible contributions to Africa.
The intellectual merit of the discussion shall not only be appreciated by those involved in African business, but also by business persons in all sectors in developing countries.

4) Insight: Becoming a professional in Bolted Joints (Nuts and Bolts)
—————————————————————————
With the help of AOTS and, a company called HARDLOCK Industry Co., Ltd. conducted a three-day online seminar on the “Fundamentals of Threaded Metal Connections [OREG01]” targeted at Egyptian companies. This subsidized program was held on November 15th, 16th and 17th, for three hours each day.The Japanese company HARDLOCK teamed up with a knowledgeable University Professor to present on topics such as Safe Design of Bolted Joints, Prevention strategies for loosening, Bolt failure Prevention techniques.Bolted Joints are the most fundamental building block for various manufacturing processes. Even in Japan, a bolted joint seminar targeted at a wide audience of engineers is unheard of. I imagine that it is (probably) the first time that such a seminar has been held from Japan to an overseas audience. Due to the extraordinary cooperation and commitment of our on-site partner, the AOTS Alumni Society, Egypt, we received an even greater response than we had expected. Approximately 170 applicants (as of the October 31 application deadline), compared to our target, 100 participants.Applicants for the seminar covered a wide range of manufacturing industries, such as the railroad industry, the infrastructure and construction industry (including the construction of the Suez Canal) as well as automobile manufacturers. There were also requests from educational and training institutions to participate in the course. Bolted joints are simple and common to our everyday lives. That is why, it is so hard to believe that in this day and age, life-threatening accidents all still occurring all across the world because of badly designed and incorrectly installed bolted joints. We think that the large number of applicants for our seminar, indicates the awareness of these issues.
As a matter of fact, I am writing this newsletter prior to the seminar’s launch, so I am afraid that I cannot mention the details regarding the seminar’s results. In our December Newsletter, I will give more details on the Seminars success, including interesting feedback, reactions from our participants and other insights.
To be continued.
