Hiroshima Global Academy (HiGA) is located on an island in Hiroshima, Japan.
We are an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School that offers the Diploma Program (DP) from Grades 10 through to 12.
Additionally, our school offers a full board dormitory system.
We are going to open Second Semester Admissions for the 2024 school year soon.
The interview and oral exam day will be held on the 1st of May, JST.

Thoughts on the Management Philosophy of Various Japanese Companies – March 2024
Let’s go back to our story.
The Hardlock Nut (or HLN), which was finally adopted in the railway track sector in the company’s third year of establishment, has since been widely used in applications where the loosening of fasteners can cause significant damage and loss, such as in the cases of mining and construction machinery, vehicles, steel bridges, major structures, steelmaking equipment, and pipelines.
Recently, the HLN, known as the “fasteners that never come loose,” has become something like a sanctuary in times of trouble.
In other words, there are numerous cases where the great importance of fastener loosening is only realized after a major accident or failure, leading to a consultation with Hardlock Industry as a final measure.
Many accidents could have been prevented if HLN had been used from the start.
Meanwhile, there are also cases where the importance of the “fasteners that never come loose” was recognized in advance, and despite significant obstacles to change, a bold decision was made to switch to HLN.
The spirit of altruism was present there, too.
There’s a story from the 1980s about a Japanese railway carriage manufacturer that was considering HLN for a new type of Shinkansen (bullet train) carriage.
At that time, most engineers were reluctant to adopt the HLN, as there was no precedent for using it in the Shinkansen, and there was strong psychological resistance to this change.
The desire to avoid taking responsibility for a decision, a form of self-preservation, was at play.
It’s understandable, as the desire to protect oneself is a basic human instinct.
Amidst this, a manager in the design department took a brave step forward.
A train carrying human lives at speeds well over 200 km/h must not cause any accidents.
Any possibility of further enhancing safety should be pursued to protect many lives.
After investing time and money to gather enough test data to convince those opposing the change, the decision was finally made to adopt the Hardlock for the Shinkansen.
Initially used only in certain parts, HLN is now used in about 20,000 places in a single Shinkansen train, and there has not been a single instance of it loosening to date.
I believe that not only business managers but also leaders working in the workplace should have the spirit of altruism, as it is crucial for the maintenance and development of business and society.
