2) Insight: Becoming a professional in Bolted Joints (Nuts and Bolts)
The online seminar on “Fundamentals of Threaded Metal Connections” held in Egypt last November ( details in last month’s article ) was very successful, receiving great feedback, various reactions and led to new projects for the Japanese technology introduced. One of the potential new projects is an infrastructure project awarded to Hassan Allam Roads and Bridges (HASSAN) to build Egypt’s first vertical-lift bridge which will cross the Nile river. The request was to use HARDLOCK Nut, a loosening prevention device to prevent loosening for safety critical areas on the bridge.
Probably the most enthusiastic response received was the invitation from Professor. Baha, President of the AOTS Alumni Society of Egypt to conduct a seminar at the 1st Annual Assembly and Conference [TWF-Africa] (Hosted by The Welding Federation,Cairo,March 14 ~ 17)
HARDLOCK Nut is the only semi-permanent bolt fusion technology, allowing assembly/ disassembly, but also carrying the same welding benefits in that the joint stays tight once installed. This means that even for fields/ applications that only use welded joints; and bolted joints are thought to be unsuitable, there are now more options for an optimal steel connection method.
Through the recent online seminar, these benefits were appealing to Professor Baha as well as other Welding Experts, leading to proposal for HARDLOCK Industry CO., Ltd. to present at TWF-Africa conference.
At the current moment, it is not fully established to whether or not HARDLOCK’s seminar goes ahead. However in the case that HARDLOCK Nut is presented at TWF-Africa’s conference, I am sure that the product will be recognized by many of the welding experts around Africa and that the boundary line between welding and bolted joints will become thinner. This will in turn lead to better decision making for engineers, designers and practitioners when choosing steel connection methods (Joining techniques).
